Upgrading your insulation is an affordable way to improve your home’s comfort while reducing energy bills. Manitoba homeowners can take advantage of rebates that make these upgrades more affordable.
Steps to Participate in the Manitoba Insulation Rebate Program
If your home was built before 1999, you may qualify for attic, wall, and/or foundation wall insulation rebates. We’ll tell you more about these rebates today!
1. Check Eligibility
First, make sure you’re eligible. Homeowners must apply through a qualifying contractor or retailer, and the project must be approved before purchasing and installing any materials. You’ll only get your rebate for an approved project.
2. Install Insulation
Once approved, you can purchase and install the insulation from a licensed and registered contractor or retailer. Installation must be completed within 12 months of approval.
3. Submit for Rebates
Once installed, submit your application to receive your rebate. Sometimes, a post-verification inspection will be required before funds are disbursed.
Eligibility Requirements
- You must have an active Manitoba Hydro account.
- The property should be a primary residence used year-round.
- The project cannot be started until approval is given, and no materials can be purchased until the project is started.
- The contractor or retailer must be registered with Efficiency Manitoba.
Ineligible Projects
Certain types of projects are not covered by this rebate program, including:
- Insulation for garages, sunrooms, verandas, and porches.
- Seasonal homes, cottages, or conversion projects.
- Replacement of existing insulation or incomplete projects.
- Apartments, vacation rentals, and outbuildings.
Insulation Requirements
To qualify, each part of your home must have at least 100 square feet of insulation installed, with R-values meeting specific criteria. The rebate covers only the material cost of the insulation, not labor or any other expenses.
Additional Resources
Efficiency Manitoba offers various resources to help you learn about the different kinds of insulation, their R-values, and the related terms used in the rebate program.
You can also explore financing options through Manitoba Hydro’s Home Energy Efficiency Loan and Canada’s Greener Homes Initiative.
For homeowners who need to do more, there are energy-efficiency programs for low-income households.
Insulation Rebates For Business Owners
Business owners are eligible for insulation rebates through the Building Envelope Program, which supports energy-efficient upgrades to commercial properties.
Making your home more comfortable and energy efficient is a great investment – the savings on your hydro bill will make the work well worth it. Rebates and financing programs can help lower the overall cost for qualifying Manitoba homeowners.
